Hawaii construction helps Ameron earnings
Hawaii's stable construction industry has helped boost earnings for Ameron International.
The Pasadena, Calif.-based company, which manufactures products and materials for the chemical, industrial, energy, transportation and infrastructure markets, reported its first quarter results Wednesday. Ameron said profits were up 14 percent to $9.7 million for the quarter ended March 2. Sales totaled $149.8 million in the first quarter of 2008, compared to $120.4 million in 2007.
The company said its infrastructure products group had lower sales compared to the year before because of weak sales of its pole products division, but that its Hawaii division had steady growth led by high demand for ready-mix concrete and aggregates on Oahu and Maui payday loans.
The company said the outlook for its infrastructure products group sees a steady performance by the Hawaii division, while the pole products division is expected to have soft market conditions throughout the year.
